July 15-18, 2015
Our 10th Annual Project Healing Waters Outing was enjoyed by everyone involved.
9 Vets attended including Jim Bellow, Herb Macomber, Steve Rothert, Dave Nevedomsky, Mike Christensen, Jim Baker, Dwaine LaChance, Lyndon Babkirk, and Terri Perry.
John Wood, Ian Cameron, Wayne Plummer, Chad Cray & Dan Legere were the participating guides for two days of drift boat fishing. Our first day was spent on the East Outlet of the Kennebec. Both salmon and brookies were quite co-operative and some very nice fish were brought to the net by many of the vets. Caddis were hatching in the morning so dry flies were the order of the day. We had a cookout at the Beach Pool then fished our way to Indian Pond.
On day two we hit the road for a day on the West Branch of the Penobscot , putting in at Big Eddy Campground. Another fine day was spend fishing our way down the river to our take-out at Salmon Deadwater. Caddis again provides everyone with good dry fly fishing.
At the end of day two we all met at Moosetracs Cottages on Prong Pond, who provided lodging for the group again this year, for a cookout put on by our local American Legion.
Special thanks goes out the Trailside Restaurant, Auntie M’s, Kelly’s Landing, the Rod & Reel Café, Chewonki Big Eddy Campground, Bob Hamer (our coordinator)and the American Legion for their continued support of Healing Waters Outings.
Everyone has such a great time and the vets so appreciate all that is done by so they can enjoy all the Moosehead Region has to offer.
