We haven’t seen much sunshine for a week or more and air temperatures have struggled to get to the 50’s.
Almost everyday since our last report we have had a hard frost. It’s been differcult finding 40 degree water.
I am happy to report smelt are running in the Moose River. Fish are stacked at the mouth and have started moving into the river. A gentleman was in mid-week saying he had driven by the mouth of the river twice that day and both times multiple boats were playing fish. Fishing is definitely improving. Guys who were having a hard time finding cooperative fish the beginning of the week now on fish.
It’s still sinking lines and streamers. We were out on Wednesday and smelt patterns were what the fish wanted. We bumped into a small BWO hatch in the afternoon that had a few fish working what bugs there were and we caught fish on small soft hackle wets fished in the film.
Fish are beginning to liven up and it’s only going to get better as the water begins to creep into the 40’s.
We will be closed Monday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 10th.
We’ll be back and open everyday for the season on Wednesday the 11th.
