Dan’s Backcountry Charters

During the off season in Maine (Nov.-April) we reside at our winter fishing camp in Naples,
Florida. Dan has his captain’s license, a 17′ flats boat and guides fishermen into the backcountry of Rockery Bay Reserve, the Ten Thousands Islands, and Everglades National Park where the wilderness is on the water. There are endless places to explore in search of tropical fish like snook, redfish, cravely, spotted sea trout and many others.
And the winter wildlife is like no other place where many species of shore birds winter, ospreys nest, pelicans glide gracefully, bottle nosed dolphins roam, manatee lounge around, and sharks hunt for their next meal. You never know what you’ll find around every corner.
It’s a wonderful experience where the wilderness is on the water.

Ten Thousand Islands Area

Join me aboard my 17′ flats skiff for a trip into the backcountry of the Ten Thousand Islands region on the Gulf Coast of Florida. We’ll leave the crowds behind and sneak around oyster bars and mangrove edges of the backcountry in search of redfish, snook, sea trout, jacks, tarpon, and lady fish.
You’ll be up front, on the deck, ready to cast while I pole you to where fish feed in the skinny water of back bays and tidal rivers that seldom see fishermen.

The backcountry is beautiful and the bird life is spectacular not to mention the fish. The wilderness is on the water and I love to take people there.
Trips are for 1 or 2 people and includes all tackle, fishing licenses and lunch.

Rookery Bay National Esturary

You’ll spend the day at Rookery Bay Reserve. We’ll go into the backcountry and fish for snook, redfish, jacks, lady fish, and spotted sea trout. An amazing world exists within the 85,000 acres of pristine mangrove forest and protected waters of Rookery Bay. A myriad of wildlife, including 150 species of birds and many threatened and endangered animals, thrive in the estuarine environment and surrounding upland hammocks and scrub found within the the Reserve. I can’t think of a nicer way to spend a day on the water, fishing and enjoying the natives. Bring your camera.
