Moosehead Lake Region
Area Trout Pond Guide

The last glacial period, over 10,000 years ago, shaped the Moosehead Lake Region, endowing it with hundreds of lakes and ponds, and countless miles of streams and rivers. Although the region is best known among anglers for Moosehead Lake, and its associated river fisheries, many small ponds provide excellent fishing opportunities for wild brook trout. This guide profiles 40 trout ponds located within a hour’s drive of Greenville. Only five of the most accessible ponds are stocked: the remaining offer a diversity of fishing opportunities for wild brook trout. Special regulations and length limits apply at most of the wild trout ponds to recognize the growth potential. Some are noted for quality in terms of fish size, others for quality in the number of trout that can be caught and released in a day’s fishing. Shore fishing opportunities are very limited at most of these waters. A canoe, kayak or a float tube will greatly enhance your ability to fish them.

Please consult the lawbook for possession laws and any additional regulations that may apply.

DeLorme’s Maine Atlas and Gazetteer is the perfect map to explore our regions endless possibilities.
